The 'New Normal' For Forward Role

Author: Danielle Secker

So, after 4+ Months of the whole team working from home and only seeing each other via video calls, the time has come for the Forward Role team to start slowly returning to our lovely Manchester HQ!

For those of you that have already ventured out of your homes or back to the office, you will have experienced the ‘new normal’ such as face masks, ordering via apps, one-way systems, an endless amount of hand sanitisers available etc. Personally, I quite like this new way of life, it gives me a sense of safety knowing that there have been procedures put in place and venues/companies are adhering to them.

As Office Manager at Forward Role, I want the team to feel that same sense of safety when they return to the office, so here are just a few steps that we have implemented:

  • There is a new FR branded sanitiser machine installed in Reception for all staff and future visitors to use.  There are also hand sanitisers available throughout the office – clean hands are a must!! We have Health & Safety guidance signs posted around the office for gentle reminders too. We also have a more spaced out seating arrangement to help ensure that we can adhere to social distancing.

  • Return to work assessments – these assessments check not only the physical health of our employees but also their mental health. Long periods of isolation & uncertainty can undoubtedly cause stress so it’s really important to us that we support our employees as much as we can.  Here at Forward Role, every employee has access to private medical which includes a free completely confidential counselling service

  • Option to continue to work from home – although the world does seem to be slowly getting back to some normality, with procedures in place for everyone’s safety, some people are just not ready to return and do you know what? That is okay!! There are many reasons why some may not be ready to return to the office just yet, whether that is: childcare, not being ready to be on public transport, still a feeling of unease etc – we understand!

I've been working directly with our MD Brian Johnson to implement these Covid measures, so that the Rollers can return safely to our Manchester HQ if they would like to. Brian explains that “We have initially opened the office once a week to give the staff the opportunity to come in if they feel comfortable. This is a completely flexible, no-pressure situation, as we fully understand that not everyone will feel ready or able to return to the office just yet. We’ve also found that as a business, we are able to operate fully remotely if and when necessary.”

New research by the Adecco Group UK found that the majority (77%) of UK employees say a mix of office-based and remote working is the best way forward post COVID-19 and Forward Role will certainly be continuing with a flexible working approach for the foreseeable future.

Ensuring our employees are comfortable and safe is our priority. Throughout this pandemic the Rollers have remained a team, we have supported each other during these difficult times, and you can read about how we kept motivated during the lockdown and our training bootcamp in some of our previous blogs.

It will be interesting to see how life continues to change short & long term...will working from home and rotas become a permanent thing? Will sanitising our hands form part of our daily routine forever, just like brushing our teeth? Will it become acceptable to wear pyjamas in public places and offices because our social norms have been thrown into chaos?! Whatever the future holds, our team will always be our priority, and we will continue to adapt as a business, to the changing world around us.

If you are a business owner and would like a chat about returning to your office, or if you are currently looking for a new role either office or home-based, get in touch!
