13 Forward Rollers, 24.5 miles, 12 hours and a £1,000 fundraising target!

The mud, aches, bruises, more mud and electric shocks from last year’s Tough Mudder were soon forgotten when it came to discussing what Forward Role would take on for this year’s fundraising challenge. From Fun Runs to Iron Mans, we had a vast range of suggestions across the office, with a firm favourite being a scenic walk…  Enter the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a whole 24.5 miles of scenery. 

Mental? Yes! Prepared? Probably not. Up for the challenge? 100%.

Let the training commence

The recommended 10,000 steps a day, a walk in the park over the weekend (or more likely to the pub), or an incline of 3 on the treadmill at the gym? We thought we had the training for YTP well and truly nailed. That was until, we did some research and came across "Even the more experienced walkers would likely not have experienced something as draining as the National Three Peaks Challenge" on the Three Peaks website, followed with a recommendation of Snowdonia for training. Yikes! 

Time to up our game! – In the past few weeks The Rollers have taken on Jumbles, Arthurs Seat and Ingleborough as practice walks, whilst Sophie and I have been training for the Manchester 10K. Hopefully it'll be enough to prepare us for the challenge of climbing Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in just under 6 weeks' time.

So why are we putting ourselves through it?

Throbbing calves, backache and weak thighs all come as warnings on The National Three Peaks website (eeek!). So why are we putting ourselves through it? A question all of us have had to answer during our training and fundraising process.

We work closely with Forever Manchester, who are a fantastic charity which support and fund community activity across Greater Manchester, and so we're taking on this challenge to raise money to help fund their work. It's one of the many challenges we've put ourselves through over the last 12 months and we want to raise as much as possible to help them continue their amazing work.

So, on 15th June this year, 13 Rollers will be seeing dawn break, whilst putting on our walking boots and rucksacks to set off on our biggest challenge yet! Loaded with water, snacks, and most importantly team spirit (with some bad jokes and motivational quotes involved I’m sure), we will take on the 24.5 miles with the end goal of £1,000 fundraised... and a well-earned pub dinner and celebratory drink.
